Whereas some are called to a certain ministry and then find a church, the Certified Lay Ministry (CLM) program best works in a situation where a church or ministry has a need and someone in that membership is called to help out in a larger way. CLM allows the church/ministry to add ministers from within their own ranks. The CLM may help out in all ministries, or they may specialize in one or more areas. This decision will depend on the needs of the church or ministry and the gifts of the CLM.
Discernment Retreat (One Day): This retreat is the entry point for those exploring a call to lay ministry and provides overview of the various lay ministry opportunities within the conference. If your church is interested in hosting a retreat, please contact the Leadership Development Office.
Lay Servant Ministries Classes (One Day): Classes are held throughout the year in various locations throughout the Dakotas. Classes will vary such as: youth ministry, leadership events, Mission U, breakthrough prayer workshops, and annual conference. Consider subscribing to "Monday's at the Dakotas" for up to date information on events taking place around the conference.
Lay Speaking Retreat (Weekend): This retreat is great for those seeking credit for advanced certification. The retreat is open to everyone regardless if you have or have not attended the Ministry Discernment Classes. The retreat is for those who are interested in gaining experience, receiving feedback, and practice speaking and preaching in a safe and nurturing environment.
