What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. – 1 Corinthians 14:26
Prairie View United Methodist Church is a small, rural church in the southwest corner of South Dakota. It opened in 2010 after four struggling rural congregations (Oral, Smithwick, Oelrichs, and Buffalo Gap) decided to join together as one worshipping congregation. They dared to dream big and take a huge risk in the hopes they could continue to live out their calling to grow in love of God and neighbor, reach new people, and offer hope and healing to a broken world.
The people at Prairie View UMC see themselves as more than just a congregation, they are family who plays together, works together, laughs together, cries together, and most importantly walks in faith together. They have also been great at financing together to support the church and its ministries.
The congregation was able to pay for both the new church building and parsonage with no mortgage needed. But with any structure, maintenance and repairs are needed. The parsonage is in need of many updates to ensure its safety and comfort for the pastor. Among the projects to be done are replacing the windows, flooring, smoke alarms, base covers, bathroom faucet, and painting. Plans are also in place to fix the fireplace, repair the driveway, paint the garage and trim, and repair the deck in the future.
Because of Covid, the church took a hit on both attendance and their financial stability. They have had to make cuts to their budget and had to go from a full-time pastor to a part-time pastor. Despite the difficulties, the congregation has been faithful in contributing hours of labor, extra financial assistance and organizing fundraisers to help fund these projects. By assisting with the cost of updates to the parsonage, Prairie View UMC can continue to teach and reach many who need to know the love of Christ.
We are so grateful for your continued support of the Builders Club and ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to support Prairie View UMC. The gifts for this call will be received until March 31, 2024. Send your gift to Builders Club, PO Box 460, Mitchell, SD 57301 or donate online.
A huge thank you and hugs to all Builders Club partners and those who gave a one-time gift for our roof repair needs here at Hettinger United Methodist Church. You have no idea how grateful we are for you accepting this call as well as your generous giving.
With these funds, we can secure and rebuild a solid foundation of the roof so those who attend and visit here may know they are “covered” and protected but may also freely worship and thank God for His many blessings, and not have to worry about the physical building.
The work on our roof will hopefully begin this summer of 2024. We are uncertain as to how long this process will take but are excited for the outcome. Our church has some funds set aside for building repair and thanks to your generosity, we will be able to fund this project 100%.
We are proud to be part of this connectional system called the United Methodist Church. God bless and thank you again!
