An Invitation to Love our Neighbors: Creativity Kits for Kids in Minnesota

Most of us are aware of what our Minnesota siblings, particularly in the Twin Cities, are dealing with as immigration enforcement has ramped up in the past month. Individuals, families, documented and undocumented immigrants, and citizens alike are being negatively impacted. Even as we have extended our prayers, support, and solidarity, we now have the opportunity to answer a direct need.

CreativityKits

Our Minnesota United Methodists Churches have shared the direct ways this conflict is affecting children of immigrants and persons of color. ICE raids are causing severe trauma to these children, characterized by intense fear, school absenteeism, and the psychological distress of potential family separation. Children are witnessing parents detained at home or work, leading to anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues. Many schools are pivoting to offer online options becauseof studentswho fear leaving home.

Minnesota United Methodists are responding to this heartbreaking reality by bringing signs of hope and care through Creativity Kits for Kids. These age-appropriate bags contain items to help kids focus on creativity and joy. These bags help affected young people be kids and give their parents space to focus on keeping their family safe. Our MNUMC siblings have invited us to be a part of this incarnational ministry. We are asking for help in responding to this immediate, urgent need by gathering items for Creativity Kits. Suggested items are listed below. Kits can be assembled or items can be donated individually. Because the need is now, we ask you to deliver the kits to the Conference office by this Saturday (Feb 7) or send with a pastor who will be attending Epiphany Gathering which begins Sunday, Feb 8, (if your pastor isn't attending, contact Bea Stucke to find a participating pastor near you.) If you would like to make a monetary donation to help with Creativity Kits and other emergency needs, see the links below.

This is our opportunity to help the children of Minnesota know that they are loved and not alone and to stand with our Minnesota siblings in Christ as they bear witness to the love of God for all people.
