Hosanna Psalm 118:21-25

I am that stone. Jesus was that stone. You are that stone.

We all are rejected sometimes as not-good-enough. Maybe the Stone was rejected because of narrow-minded builders. Perhaps it was marble and they wanted granite. Or perhaps its gifts — being large and square — weren’t useful for a stone wall that required small and round stones.

But the Builder had other plans for the Stone. Eventually, the Stone was used by the Builder to be the cornerstone, which holds up the whole building.

Jesus identified with that Stone. One time when Jesus was rejected, he quoted this psalm. He said to the chief priests and Pharisees who would soon kill him, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is amazing in our eyes!”

Rejection is painful for us and for Jesus. When I’m feeling rejected, do I trust God enough to turn to God for help? Who answers me? Who helps me? Whom do I rely on when things are really bad?
