LaGonave Alive! Sends over $2,000 to Haiti

MITCHELL, SOUTH DAKOTA –LaGonave Alive! is nonprofit organization for Haiti. The group is coordinated by Bruce Blumer, Executive Director of the Dakotas United Methodist Church, and member of Mitchell First United Methodist Church. 

LaGonave Alive! is just beginning. The goals are to raise awareness of the island of LaGonave and its’ unique issues, to provide scholarships for students and assistance for schools, and to enhance the health of the people and their access to medical care. Current projects include:

  • Providing tuition and living expenses for William Hyppolite to continue medical school in the Dominican Republic.
  • Through sponsors, providing scholarships for students to attend school from elementary through university.
  • The nonprofit organization has  applied for a United Methodist Committee on Relief grant for mobile clinics.

A Haiti Scholarship Rummage Sale was held on August 16, 2013. $2051 was taken in and sent to help students go back to school in LaGonave. There is a long list of students and teachers that need assistance, these funds be a great help!
