Micah 6:8 Fund: Living Out Justice & Mercy Together

By: Barb Goldammer, Dakotas & Minnesota Methodist Foundation | January 16, 2026

“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.” ~Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8

The Dakotas and Minnesota Methodist Foundations invite United Methodists across our two conferences to live out the prophetic call of Micah 6:8—to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God—through the newly established Micah 6:8 Justice and Mercy Fund.

Your gifts will provide immediate grants to local churches and ministry partners offering practical care, compassionate presence, and support during times of community need. This may include assistance for first responders, meal preparation and food ministries, training that builds resilience, and other justice and mercydriven outreach efforts.

As the Micah 6:8 Fund grows, it will ensure that churches across the conferences are ready to respond quickly and faithfully whenever neighbors face hardship or crisis.

“In every generation, Micah’s words remind us that faith is not passive—it moves us toward others with compassion and courage,” said Sheri Meister, President and CEO of the Dakotas andMinnesota Methodist Foundations. “This fund invites us to put that faith into action—right where we live and in our conferences.”

The inspiration for the Micah 6:8 Fund began with a faithful conversation. Moved by the unrest and uncertainty present in our communities, longtime friend of the Foundations Alisha Vincent reached out with a timely question: “Is there a way for the church to respond immediately when crisis strikes?”

Out of that question, the Micah 6:8 Fund was created. Alisha and her husband, Buster, generously provided seed money to establish a fund designed to meet urgent needs as they arise. Over time, this fund will grow and remain available to help churches respond quickly—whether facing community unrest, natural disasters, or other unforeseen crises.

This fund is an expression of faithful preparedness: ensuring that when hardship comes, the church is equipped to act with compassion, immediate response, and enduring hope.

The Micah 6:8 Fund reflects a shared belief that justice and mercy are not abstract ideals but lived expressions of love. Across our communities, families are working to keep their children safe, first responders are carrying the weight of trauma and exhaustion, and ministries are laboring faithfully to care for both body and spirit. The Fund enables the Church to respond where care and hope are most needed.

“These are not distant concerns. They are happening next door—sometimes only a few blocks away, in the very places we live, work, and worship. They are the lived realities of our neighbors, people God loves deeply,” Sheri added. “They call us to respond now—with compassion and courage.”

Pastors and congregations are encouraged to join this effort by sharing the appeal in worship or newsletters and by prayerfully considering a gift. Your support brings justice and mercy to life throughout the Dakotas and Minnesota, showing the love of Christ in tangible ways.
