Resources to make your church budget a tool for ministry

By: Jeff Pospisil, executive director of finance and administration, Dakotas UMC

What if church budgeting could be better? Besides just having more accurate numbers, what if the budget gave your church leadership clarity and hope about making progress in reaching their vision for the church? What if your church budget even helped you tell the story of your church and why it’s important? Jeff Pospisil, executive director of finance and administration for the Dakotas Conference, shares ten videos as a series that will help you make that happen.

The main goal of the video series is to help local congregations turn their budget from an annual chore to a tool for guiding their churches.

Pospisil recently talked with the finance committee at Kimball Protestant Parish, and they said, “Do we even really need to do a budget because it doesn’t seem like it’s worth effort?”

“This isn’t at all unique,” says Pospisil. “Many churches set a budget and usually the numbers are unrealistic, and the church spends what it feels it needs to spend throughout the rest of the year without really ever worrying about the budget. Their only worry is the amount of money in the bank. I totally understand and can relate to their frustration.”
