The churches of Linton and Sterling, North Dakota banded together and held an “Undie Sunday” for the Spirit Lake Ministry Center on the Spirit Lake Nation in North Dakota. Parishioners brought new underwear, disposable diapers and blankets to the Sunday worship service.

The result was a vanload of disposal diapers, new underwear and blankets for the Children’s Clothing Closet.  A cash offering was also collected.  The cash donated yielded enough money to sponsor one Spirit Lake Ministry Day Camp Supervisor.

Spirit Lake Ministry Center will host a weekly “Day Camp” this summer.  The Day Camp will start with a hot lunch, transition to the spiritual lesson for the day with crafts, prayers and songs, and conclude with a time of play with that day’s team members.  

“Hosting the Day Camp will enable us to touch more children from across the reservation each week and provide them with a continuous, summer-long learning experience. This has been our dream for several years,” said Mike Flowers, Co-director at Spirit Lake Ministry Center.

The summer Day Camp program will springboard into school year programming at Spirit Lake Ministry Center.

“In the past, when the summer was over, we were finished with formal children’s programming for the year.  Now, we will continue our children’s programming as an after school program through the rest of the year,” said Libby Flowers, Co-director at Spirit Lake Ministry Center.

Three persons have been hired to supervise the Day Camp.  The cost for each of the summer employees for Day Camp is approximately $2700.00 each. Spirit Lake Ministry Center is in need of donations from churches and individuals to cover the cost.
