Wessington Springs United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs, South Dakota is serving as the headquarters for donations that will assist victims of tornado.  In addition, the Dakotas Conference will coordinate case management services for victims of tornadoes and flooding in Wessington Springs, Canton and southeast South Dakota. 

A tornado touched down in Wessington Springs and demolished several homes and businesses. The community distribution center for tornado victims was recently relocated from the Elementary School to the United Methodist Church, on Thursday, June 26. A lot of progress was made quickly with all of the helping hands to make the move and donation center operationaly.  

Alisha Luymes, Wessington Springs UMC, said, "The donations being delivered keep our volunteers busy, but it's so amazing to see how generous people are!"

Kathy Chesney, Dakotas Conference Disaster Relief Coordinator for South Dakota will head up the coordination of case management for victims who will need assistant.  "We will be working on a centralized system of case management.  Victims from the recent tornadoes and flooding will come to a location where case managers will be available."  Case management training will be available in the near future.

Canton and surrounding areas in southeast South Dakota are busy cleaning up after flooding destroyed many homes and still stands in several basements.  Clean up is needed by trained volunteers.  A special Early Respone Training will be held on Tuesday, July 1 and Wednesday, July 2 at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Trained volunteers are needed, please consider attending the training and volunteering.  Click here for all of the details.
