McGovern CROP Walk raises money and awareness

The McGovern CROP Hunger Walk was recently held in Mitchell, South Dakota, raising $3,000 to provide food, water and other services to places in need both locally and globally. Community Coordinator Ron Fuchs reported 100 walkers attended the Church World Service (CWS) sponsored event.

The hunger walk was held in cooperation with Dakota Wesleyan University. Following the McGovern Hunger Summit April 15th, students and other citizens gathered at the Sherman Center at DWU for a brief worship service before they made their walk around Wesleyan Way.

The hunger walk symbolizes the six-mile average trek people in developing countries must make daily to acquire food, drinking water and supplies. In solidarity with the folks who lack vehicles and the convenience of local amenities, Fuchs said participants will walk anywhere from one to five miles around the DWU campus.

"Thank you to the walkers for making this possible, for sharing your time, interest and money. The walk benefits Church World Service projects overseas and in America, as well as the Mitchell area food pantry. We walk again because 'they walk'; we walk in solidarity," said Fuchs.
