Page United Methodist Church holds last service

The Page (ND) United Methodist Church has closed its doors after 126 years of service to the faith community. The congregation held a final service Sunday, November 3, at 11:00 a.m., with lunch and fellowship. Several current and former members and friends of the church attended.

The Methodist congregation of Page was meeting as early as 1883 when worship services were held in the school house, the Baptist church, and Cook’s Hall until the present building was completed. The church was officially organized as the Page Methodist Episcopal Church in 1887 and is still located in the original building, which has been extensively remodeled. In 1928 a basement was dug at the back of the church, and the church was moved onto the basement. The bell was removed in 1972 and placed on a pedestal in front of the church at the exact corner of the original church. The bell will be placed as a memorial in the Page Cemetery.

Many pastors have served the congregation throughout the years, and several were on hand to share memories.
