The Dakotas Appointive Cabinet seeks to match clergy and congregations in order to fulfill our gospel imperatives - to grow in love of God and neighbor, reach new people, and heal a broken world. In appointment making, the Cabinet, through prayerful discernment, seeks to hold in balance the demonstrated gifts and graces of available pastors with the missional needs of the local church.
Our United Methodist process of matching pastors and congregations is a "send" process; pastors are sent (appointed) to a congregation by the Bishop and Cabinet (the District Superintendents or DS). This is understood by all UMC pastors and congregations, yet it is sometimes necessary that the seriousness of other covenants we have made (such as marriage, parenting, or elder-care) must take priority over the commitment to itinerate.
For the ensuing appointment year, we ask you to prayerfully consider your responses below to inform the Bishop and Cabinet of your situation. The form is due December 1st.
